Electricity charges will decrease if the Transnistrian administration accepts Chisinau's proposal to produce energy at the Kuchurgan power plant using gas purchased with European funds, the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă stated in the program “Resumé” on RliveTV. According to him, Tiraspol has not yet provided an official response and the implementation of such a solution is therefore blocked, IPN reports.
"If we follow the scenario we proposed, we will be talking about lowering charges because the price of electricity will be lower," said Government’s spokesman.
Daniel Vodă explained that with the grant of €30 million offered by the European Union, Energocom will purchase gas for the Transnistrian region. This gas could also be used to produce electricity at the Kuchurgan power plant in order to meet the power demand on both banks of the Nistru.
"The gas with European money will be purchased by the Moldovan company Energocom, which buys it from the European market. Moldovagaz will deliver gas to Tiraspoltransgaz. This gas will be delivered in a sufficient quantity to supply households, small businesses. It does not go to beneficiaries like MMZ (Moldova Steel Works, e.n.) or the so-called cryptocurrency industry, which flourishes under the separatist regime. This gas will be delivered to the MGRES to produce electricity for the left bank and the right bank," explained Daniel Vodă.
The Government’s representative said that no response to Chisinau's proposal has come from Tiraspol for now.
"There is a surprising silence in Tiraspol. It's probably hard to turn down an offer that solves the people's problem. We are waiting for a sober decision," said Daniel Vodă.
Two days ago, Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced that Chisinau decided to lend 3 million cubic meters of gas to the Transnistrian region to maintain pressure in the pipelines. Also, in the context of the energy crisis, the European Union offers the Republic of Moldova €30 million in grant funding to purchase gas from which electricity will be produced for both banks of the Nistru River for the period between February 1 and 10.
