Vladimir Voronin lectures CIS prime-ministers on social-economic situation in Moldova
Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin met with the CIS prime-ministers Friday morning, November 14, who came to Chisinau for the CIS Summit of heads of governments, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the press service of the Moldovan president, during the meeting, Vladimir Voronin made a presentation of the social-economic situation in Moldova. The president referred to the preliminary results of the economic year 2008, taking into account the drought that affected the country last year and this year’s floods. Voronin expressed his gratitude to the member states of the Community, for their assistance given to Moldova to surpass the consequences of natural calamities.
Vladimir Voronin has remarked the importance of the issues on the agenda of this reunion, saying that the most important are the economic ones. Among them: the CIS Strategy of Economic Development till 2020, the documents regarding the cooperation priorities in the area of transport till 2020, regarding the measures of increasing the food security of the CIS member states. The president said that the approval of these issues suits the common interests in spreading and strengthening the commercial-economic cooperation between the CIS member states and the absolute capitalization of the existent potential.
Vladimir Voronin also emphasized Moldova’s commitment to exerting, for the first time in the CIS history, the presidency in all the Community’s structures – the Council of heads of state, the Council of heads of governments, the Council of foreign ministers and the CIS economic Council. The president assured that the Moldovans will take all measures needed to achieve a successful CIS presidency, expressing the availability of the Moldovan authorities for a close cooperation with the CIS Secretariat.
The president of the Executive Committee, the CIS executive secretary, Sergei Lebedev, has noticed the good preparation of the CIS government heads’ Reunion in Chisinau, adding that the Moldovan authorities show a very responsible attitude toward the preparations for exerting the presidency in the CIS.
Sergei Lebedev stated the positive experience Moldova has in organizing the Youth Year, that in 2009 will be very useful in organizing the actions supporting and promoting the young people on the entire CIS, in compliance with the decision of the Summit of the state heads from Bishkek to declare the next year the youth year, the release says. The Summit is attended by about 600 officials. About 200 journalists from the CIS states are accredited, 80 of them from Moldova.
