Vice president of the Democratic Party Vladimir Cebotari said they do not want snap parliamentary elections because this is also the people’s wish. It would be a mistake to hold such elections. That’s why the PDM invited the Socialists to discussions on the formation of a government coalition. The party is flexible in these negotiations and the Democrats do not stick to seats. The subject was discussed in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
“For the good projects initiated in the country to continue and new projects to appear, for the people to trust the state institutions and have confidence in a better future at home and believe that they can have higher salaries and pensions at home, the snap elections should be avoided as they mean uncertainty for another period of time. This means less money in the economy, fewer powers and stimulation instruments to develop things in our country,” stated the politician.
Vladimir Cebotari said the PDM is nevertheless prepared for snap elections if these are held this year and will achieve better results than this February. “We are ready to achieve a compromise and agree points that can enable us to build the future of this country together with those who want to contribute and do not want uncertainty and instability,” he noted.
As to the PDM’s proposal to the PSRM, the politician said the Democrats want stability, but not at any cost. “There are particular rules and red lines about which we cannot talk now. These red lines should be respected in the negotiations and we should be further from these. But there are particular red line that we would not cross. We are flexible and do no stick to seats,” he stated.
As regards Moldova’s development course in case a coalition is formed with the Socialists, Vladimir Cebotari said he is optimistic that the Socialists realize the country’s European development course cannot be reverted. The PDM wants yet to have good relations and economic exchanges with Russia. “If such a coalition makes this dialogue better, why not?! It means the whole country will stand to gain. We said that the European model is the best development model for the Republic of Moldova. And I think the Socialists agree with this,” he noted.
About the planned visits by three foreign officials, of the EU, the U.S. and Russia, to Moldova, the politician said they exaggerate when they say these could mediate the formation of a coalition. The foreign officials come on working visits and will normally meet with representatives of national political forces.
The Democratic Party on May 31 invited the Party of Socialists to discussions to see if a parliamentary cooperation formula based on the expectations and priorities of the people can be identified. The Socialists are to provide a response to the invitation.
