The president of the Democrat Party of Moldova (PDM) Vlad Plahotniuc discussed the sociopolitical situation and the reform process in Moldova with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Achim Steiner in a meeting in New York on July 11. The Democratic leader said the government is firmly determined to do reforms so as to modernize the state, IPN reports.
In the U.S., Vlad Plahotniuc is accompanied by the deputy head of the PDM Vladimir Cebotari, Minister of Justice, and the party’s delegate to the Government on economic reforms Vitalie Iurcu, deputy minister of economy. Vlad Plahotniuc noted that the current government undertook to implement a roadmap that envisions a series of ambitious reforms in cooperation with the European partners.
“We managed to do reforms that other governments didn’t manage to do throughout the mandate. We managed to stabilize the country and grow the economy and these things were approved of by our partners,” stated Vlad Plahotniuc. He welcomed the programs implemented by UNDP in Moldova, pleading for their strengthening. “These programs are for the benefit of the Moldovans and I’m hopeful that we will be able to make progress in their implementation.”
Minister Vladimir Cebotari expressed his interest in developing joint programs based on the platform of Moldovan penitentiary institutions. Deputy minister Vitalie Iurcu said Moldova is ready to support the energy efficiency project. “We want to reduce energy costs. The project envisions the optimization of energy consumption in the public sector and the residential one,” stated Vitalie Iurcu. For his part, Achim Steiner said UNDP will continue to support humanitarian programs so as to boost living standards and assist local communities in Moldova.
The same day, the PDM’s delegation that will be in the U.S. on July 12 as well visited the global business incubator “1776”, where it met with managing director Rachel Haot. The Democratic leader expressed his interest in this model of building businesses and invited the U.S. firms to invest in Moldova. In this connection, Vitalie Iurcu said the Moldovan authorities intend to create an IT lab near the Industrial Park “Tracom”. The meetings of the PDM’s delegation were held before the meeting of the Socialist International that started in the afternoon of July 11.
