Ex-Premier Vlad Filat said the Republic of Moldova, like other countries, needs to use all the resources, including the foreign loans, so as to strengthen the healthcare system and to identify solutions to support the economy, in particular the small and medium-sized enterprises. According to the ex-Premier, the IMF’s readiness to offer Moldova US$ 100 million to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and to support the private sector is an opportunity that should be accessed as swiftly as possible. The delay in raising this loan cannot be justified and the people will only suffer as a result, IPN reports.
“What we though only in science fiction movies is possible became true: the mankind entered a universal war with an invisible enemy that annihilates people and countries. The foundations of the international political and economic system are collapsing silently and the post-COVID-19 world will no longer be the same. The countries will focus on themselves and the derogations from the EU Stability and Growth Pact provided by the European Commission for enabling the member states to support their economies, to limit movement inside the EU show this,” Vlad Filat posted on Facebook.
According to him, the post-pandemic period will be characterized by global economic chaos e and the Republic of Moldova will not be bypassed. “The globalization process to which we only started to get used will slow down and the international relations will switch over from globalization to regionalization. Practically, exports to remote areas will decline massively, but will function regionally. The economic relations with the neighbors will prevail,” stated the former Premier.
He noted that the keeping of jobs, production and export capacities should become a priority and the own resources are not enough in this respect. “The swifter we raise the loan from the IMF, the faster we will be able to update the health system so as to cope with the pandemic and to intervene to offer assistance to private businesses that generate jobs and value added.”
