Historian and publicist Gheorghe Cojocaru considers the presence of Zinaida Grecheanyi, Parliament Speaker and leader of the Party of Socialists, in Brussels shows the PSRM and ACUM have chances of remaining together. This presence is also intended to be seen as a proof of the fact that the Socialists abide by the commitments to respect the Association Agreement with the EU.

“A new premiere occurred recently on the political arena: Prime Minister Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grecheanyi went together to Brussels on a visit and had meetings with high-level officials there. What was unimaginable not long ago became a reality, especially because these common visits to Brussels by the leaders of the two components of the current government seem to be producing the expected results as the EU resumed the financing intended for the Republic of Moldova,” Gheorghe Cojocaru stated in an interview for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service that is quoted by IPN.

The historian reminded that before the visit to Brussels, representatives of the Bloc ACUM visited the legislative body in Moscow. These somewhat courtesy visits to Moscow and to Brussels make sense yet. “They are made in the context of bilateral or trilateral agreements between the Party of Socialists and the Bloc ACUM to pursue a moderate foreign policy that would ensure a balance between the relations with the West and the East, with the European Union and with the Russian Federation,” he stated.

Gheorghe Cojocaru considers a visit to Moscow will also be paid sooner or later, especially because Prime Minister Maia Sandu, who was invited by her Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, is determined to restore the relations with Russia, primarily the economic and commercial ones, based on an agenda that promotes Moldova’s national interests.
