The visits that are to be paid by the three foreign officials – Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Kozak and Director of the Office of Eastern European Affairs of the U.S. Department of State Bradley A. Freden – are important, but will not be at all surprising. The three officials come to Moldova concomitantly to offer a solution as to the future government coalition, but these visits do not mean a compromise of the great powers as regards geopolitics in Moldova. The opinions were stated in the program “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.
Political commentator Corneliu Ciurea said the visits by the three officials are important, but not at all surprising. The officials come to clarify the situation in Moldova. ”I don’t think the three will meet together, but the information will circulate between them. I think they all consider forming a particular alliance, of the PDM and the PSRM. This could be formed, but could not be formed,” he stated, noting these visits are important as they will shed light on the formation of an alliance.
Journalist Ion Terguță said the visits by the three foreign officials are associated rather with the formation of a coalition between the PSRM and PDM. The partners from outside could suggest how Moldova can overcome the political crisis. “These persons come to Chisinau not for snap elections. This is more than evident. A political solution will be tried,” stated the journalist.
Ion Terguță noted a coalition between the PDM and the PSRM hasn’t been yet formed because such an alliance is contrary to the logic of the regional events. “I cannot accept that the Europeans and the Americans come to perpetuate the problems in Moldova’s justice sector as this absolutely illogical. However, if Vladimir Plahotniuc disappears from the political landscape of Moldova, a majority with the participation of the Democratic Party could be formed,” he stated.
Vlad Kulminski, executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives, said the simultaneous visit paid by the three foreign officials to Moldova does not mean that a compromise as regards geopolitics in Moldova was reached. “I do not see how these three great powers, the EU, the U.S. and the Russian Federation, can come to terms as regards the Republic of Moldova. It seems very hard to me in the current conditions, including the regional ones,” stated Vlad Kulminski.
He noted he does not believe in a coalition between the PSRM and the Bloc ACUM as the Socialists are not independent players and are controlled by the PDM, having a very narrow maneuvering space. The Russian Federation could neither influence some of the actions of the Democratic Party somehow as this would mean a war. The Bloc ACUM also does not want to form a coalition with the PSRM. “I think an alliance between the PDM and the PSRM is the most probable option. If this is not formed, snap elections will most probably be held. But I want to note that the snap elections are not in the interests of the parties that entered the current Parliament,” said Vlad Kulminski, adding snap elections will be held only if the formation of a formal or informal alliance is absolutely impossible.
