Viorel Morari’s leaving is beneficial as image of Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office will not be affected, opinion

Political commentator Corneliu Ciurea said the fact that Viorel Morari quit as chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office is beneficial as the image of the institution will be not affected this way. He stated his opinion in the talk show “Country” on Vocea Basarabiei TV channel, IPN reports.

Corneliu Ciurea noted the accusations made last week against Viorel Morari, of involvement in a “raider attack” on a company, should be taken seriously. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office is one of the institutions that should not allow its image to be spoiled and the response in the case of such accusations should be prompt.

“I admit that Viorel Morari somehow followed the path of Alexandru Tănase when the latter left the Ministry of Justice and preferred to detach himself from the institution so that this could further solve the existing problems,” stated the political commentator.

Ex-minister of defense Vitalie Marinuța said he didn’t expect such a swift reaction on the part of the chief prosecutor of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. “At least I expected a public response from the National Integrity Authority as Mister Morari sent a letter to this, asking to verify the information,” stated the former minister.

Vitalie Marinuța also said that the lack of such responses and the resignation tendered by Viorel Morari arouse suspicions that problems exist indeed and those anonymous letters sent to the press and embassies contain true facts.

On May 2, it became known that Viorel Morari resigned as chief prosecutor of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. Press officer of the Prosecutor General’s Office Maria Vieru said the resignation was received last week.
