Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta revolutionized the relations between Moldova and Romania, intensifying the economic cooperation and the diplomatic support up to an unprecedented level. This fact is confirmed by the frequent visits made by the leader of the Romanian Social Democratic Party (PSD) to the left bank of the Prut River. Such statements were made by PSD members in a news conference at IPN.
“Victor Ponta made a radical change in the history of the Moldovan-Romanian relations. For the first time, the words were replaced by deeds. For the first time, instead of long discussions and endless talks, there were implemented concrete programs aimed at modernizing particular segments of Moldovan society,” said Dumitru Buzatu, who heads the Vaslui County Council. He noted that owing to the constant cooperation, Victor Ponta established close relations of friendship with his Moldovan counterpart Iurie Leanca and this fact influenced the results achieved concertedly. Also, owing to Victor Ponta, the Moldovan-Romanian relations will intensify at local level too, not only at national level.
“Victor Ponta is the Prime Minister who visited Moldova more often than all the other Premiers of Romania who served before 2012,” said Romanian Social-Democratic MP Adrian Solomon. According to him, Victor Ponta is the only candidate in the Romanian elections that deserves the votes of the Moldovans with Romanian nationality.
Victor Alexeev, head of the organization of Romania’s PSD in Moldova, said that during the two years of premiership, Victor Ponta managed to make Romania the key commercial partner of Moldova. “Everything that Victor Ponta did is without precedent and all the measures taken are historical in the relations between our countries over the last 100 years,” he stated.
Victor Ponta is running in the presidential elections that will take place in Romania on November 2. The second round of the elections, if necessary, will be held on November 16. Twenty-one polling places will be opened in Moldova for the Romanian presidential elections, four of which in Chisinau.
