European Commissioner Johannes Hahn, during the official visit he paid to Chisinau, transmitted a balanced message that there are particular risks if a coalition is not formed, but also that the commenced things should be continued. The message of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak sounded like acceptance of the formation of a government coalition between the Party of Socialists and the Democratic Party, journalist Victor Nikitush was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Fabrika” de la Publika TV channel.
“We can presume that Kozak at a certain moment said he will not meet with the leader of the PDM Vladimir Plahotniuc or that he is not against a possible alliance between the PDM and the PSRM, which means that an agreement was probably reached and this agreement was slightly specified by Johannes Hahn, who said he would like peace to exist and a Government to be formed in the Republic of Moldova,” stated the journalist.
He noted that as the Bloc ACUM issued one more invitation to discussions to the Socialists, the rating of the PSRM, which is now courted by two entities, increased.
Political commentator Corneliu Ciurea said that judging by the made statements, the three diplomats didn’t intend to exert pressure and to push things towards a particular direction. The three foreign officials probably tried to dissimulate the real intentions by such statements. At the level of the EU, there is understanding that a good dose of pragmatism towards what is going on in Moldova is needed.
As to the new invitation to discussions issued by the Bloc ACUM to the Socialists, the commentator said the Bloc wants to discuss with the Socialists, but does not have what to offer to them, while the PSRM started to show tiredness.
On June 3, the political parties had in Chisinau meetings with Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, Director of the Office of Eastern European Affairs of the U.S. Department of State Bradley A. Freden and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Kozak. After the discussions, the three officials said a stable Government is needed in Chisinau, but a temporary coalition is also welcome if a consensus for a long term cannot be reached.
