The public association “Veterans Force” on March 2 will mount an event to commemorate the heroes killed in the 1992 armed conflict for defending the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova. Later, the veterans will go on a March of Commemoration, Gratitude and Union. Representatives of the association called on all the leaders of public organizations of veterans to leave the vainglory, anger, ambitions aside and to unite so as to improve the lives of those who struggle for the integrity of this state.
In a news conference at IPN, Andrei Eremia, vice administrator of “Veterans Force”, said the event in the Great National Assembly Square will start at 9:30am and will last for approximately an hour. At 10.30am, the participants will lay flowers at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy. The March of Commemoration, Gratitude and Union will be held later and the participants will march along the main boulevard of Chisinau and then along Ismail St towards the Memorial Complex “Eternity”, where they will lay flowers at the Monument to the Grieving Mother.
“We plead for being a united force so as to achieve particular goals. Our goal is to obtain from the state what belongs to us lawfully. We do not want to be beggars. We want what belongs to us legally, as to war veterans. I would like to remind that we were those who laid the foundations of this state. That’s why the state should take care of these poor veterans who have been neglected during 30 years,” stated Andrei Eremia.
Dorel Roșca, secretary of the organization, said the veterans for multiple times said they are apolitical and should be united. “We should combine forces and should not forget that there are other forces who try to devide us,” stated Dorel Roșca, calling on his comrades not to allow to be provoked.
Valentin Țapeș, who heads the Ialoveni local organization, said the goal of the association is to unite all the veterans around a common force that would have the same message. Neither the current, nor the former politicians took measures to unite the compatriots.
The association’s manager Constantin Covrig said that only being united, the veterans will be able to obtain what they aimed in time. “We want to make a call to all the leaders of public organizations who have a say among veterans – there is nothing we should divide between us and we should leave the personal interests, vainglory, angers, ambitions and interests that are foreign to the veterans aside,” stated the veteran.
In another development, Constantin Covrig spoke about the work done by the association during the year. He said that owing to their activities, including protests, some of their demands were fulfilled, such as to increase the allowance, to offer them free health insurance, etc. The veterans aim to continue fighting for those demands that remained unfulfilled, including to lower the retirement age to 55, to issue official permits and free tickets to sanatorium and to incorporate a chapter on the events of 1990-1992 in the history books.
The Memory and Gratitude Day is celebrated on March 2 to render homage to the soldiers killed in the 1992 armed conflict for defending the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova.
