The head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (APO) Veronica Dragalin came up with a reaction to the statements of President Maia Sandu, who described the institution’s work as complete failure. Asked by journalists about this at a press conference, Dragalin replied that it is not clear to her which performance indicators have not been achieved, IPN reports.
"To this day, I have not heard from anyone, either on TV or in private, what exactly, which performance indicators have not been met by me, personally, or by the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office," said the official.
Veronica Dragalin also said that she does not intend to resign. "I am here, in this position that I will hold for a 5-year term. I will continue to work every day in the interests of the citizens," said the APO chief.
Last November, the Supreme Security Council recommended the Government to come up with changes in the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, which, according to the head of state, fully failed in the fight against grand corruption. At that time, Maia Sandu said that the changes that were made at the APO did not yield results. On Wednesday, Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru confirmed that the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office could be merged with the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases. In a press briefing, the minister said that the merger of the two institutions, as well as other institutional models, are to be discussed on a parliamentary platform with the involvement of all the interested parties.
