Veronica Bacalu was chosen as the only candidate for the presidency. She is supported by the Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party and the group of Socialists in Parliament. The information was confirmed by the Liberal-Democratic leader Vlad Filat before the legislature’s February 24 plenary sitting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vlad Filat said they initially discussed the candidacy of academician Ion Ababii, but the Liberal Party refused to support him.
The Liberal Party is to state its opinion on candidate Veronica Bacalu. Vlad Filat said the lawmakers of the PLDM, PDM and PSRM do not intend to examine other candidates.
The legislative body is to set the date of the presidential elections.
Veronica Bacalu was deputy governor of the National Bank of Moldova. Currently, she serves as an economist with the International Monetary Fund.
