Blogger Tudor Șoilița, with a declared audience of over one million followers, said the citizens of the Republic of Moldova are deeply concerned about the authorities’ decision to implement the pilot postal voting project in some of the European countries less than a year before the upcoming election, of October 20. He requested the Venice Commission, the Council of Europe and a number of embassies to send recommendations to the Moldovan authorities to prevent possible irregularities and ensure the integrity and transparency of the upcoming election.

“Despite the repeated violations of the Constitution by the Moldovan authorities and the non-compliance with your recommendations, we bank on your support and assistance in preventing possible negative consequences for the democratic process in our country,” the blogger told a press conference at IPN.

According to him, the Venice Commission clearly stated that it does not recommend making changes in the electoral process in Moldova less than a year before the election, but the Moldovan authorities do not take these recommendations into account.

“The situation we are witnessing in Sweden and other countries where postal voting is planned to be implemented is particularly worrying. During the civil investigation I conducted in Sweden, I saw that the electoral process is not under control. No one can be assured that the vote will be brought to our country by mail and could not be falsified. This poses serious risks to the transparency and integrity of elections and undermines citizens’ trust in the electoral system,” said Tudor Șoilița.

“We call on the Venice Commission, the Council of Europe and our partners to take all the possible measures to prevent the introduction of the pilot postal voting at such a short time before the election. It is necessary to ensure that any changes to the electoral process are made in compliance with the international standards and recommendations and by taking into account the opinions of civil society and international observers.”

“We ask you to send appropriate recommendations and requirements to the Moldovan authorities to prevent possible irregularities and ensure the integrity and transparency of the upcoming election,” the blogger said in his appeal.

Tudor Șoilița noted that he sent this appeal to Strasbourg, both to the Venice Commission and the Council of Europe.
