Vehicles travel with lights on from Nov. 1

Over four months from November 1, the drivers must travel with the lights on at their vehicles during the day. Though such a violation is not penalized, the traffic police will stop the drivers and will request them to turn the lights on.

Head of the State Motor Inspectorate Valentin Gorceac has told IPN that international practice shows such a measure is necessary given the unstable weather and poor visibility in this period. When there is fog, the drivers must also switch on the fog lamps, if the vehicle has such lamps. It is also important for the motorists to adjust the speed to the weather conditions.

“It was proven that if the drivers turn on the lights, visibility on the public roads is better,” stated Valentin Gorceac, adding that the drivers mainly comply with such a rule. The drivers who will forget to switch the lights on will be warned by the traffic inspectors. The fine for such a violation was abolished this April, when the legislation was amended.

According to the National Patrolling Inspectorate, 665 road accidents involving pedestrians have occurred so far this year. They resulted in 64 deaths and over 600 people hurt.
