Vehicles for community centers for combating tuberculosis

Eleven vehicles bought within the project “Increasing the role of the patient and community in controlling tuberculosis in Moldova” have been handed over to community centers for supporting persons suffering from TB. Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said the vehicles will significantly facilitate the work of the medical personnel, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We hope that in the future no difficulties will be encountered in traveling to the place where the patient is. Owing to this project, we will contribute to improved medical services and to the prevention of tuberculosis,” said the minister. Andrei Mosneaga, director of the Center for Health Policy and Analyses, said the vehicles will help optimize the work of the persons working in the medical system. Attending the handover ceremony, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said that concerted effort is needed to combat tuberculosis, while these cars will help ensure access to services of a high quality. Ten of the 11 Suzuki vehicles will be used by the community centers in Straseni, Orhei, Rezina, Glodeni, Ungheni, Hancesti, Ialoveni, Criuleni, Cahul and Rybnitsa, while the 11th car – by the Medical Division of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions. The project is financially supported by the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The vehicles cost over 2.3 million lei. They will benefit about 6 500 persons suffering from tuberculosis.
