The registration mechanism for vehicles from the Transnistrian region with neutral plates was extended until September 1, 2022. The legislative amendments approved by the Parliament were published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.

Going forward, residents of the Transnistrian region will continue to register their vehicles with neutral plates at the Public Services Agency, thus will be able to travel internationally. The mechanism is established on a voluntary basis.

Owners of vehicles from the Transnistrian region can request neutral registration numbers, provided by Moldovan authorities, starting with September 1, 2018. These plates allow them to travel internationally. Following negotiations between Chișinău and Tiraspol, it was agreed to establish two registration points in Tiraspol and Râbnița.

According to Bureau of Reintegration Policies data, over the course of two years, 1143 transport units with neutral plate numbers travelled outside Moldova. During the same period, about four thousand cars were registered.
