Veaceslav Platon accused of harming Office of Motor Insurers

Veaceslav Platon was charged on three more counts and the prosecutors asked the court to place him in remand detention for causing damage totaling 19.5 million lei to the National Office of Motor Insurers, IPN reports.

Veaceslav Platon is accused of large-scale swindle, causing of non-pecuniary damage by swindle and abuse of trust and making, holding, sale or use of false official documents, stamps or seals.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said that in 2014-2015, the criminal group organized and led by Veaceslav Platon, through the agency of many right-hand persons, citizens of Moldova and of Ukraine, embezzled money from the accounts of the National Office of Motor Insurers opened at BC “Moldova-Agroindbank” SA and BC “Moldindconbank”.

As a result of the actions taken by the law, about 6 million lei was restored to the Office and tangible and intangible assets to the value of about 8 million lei were sequestered.

Veaceslav Platon is investigated for the illegal takeover of Moldova-Agroindbank and its management for the benefit of an organized criminal group. He was ordered to show up on November 11 to be indicted for a raider attack on Moldova-Agroindbank with money from the Russian Laundromat and to familiarize himself with the indictment of May 20, 2021 issued by the Investigation Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Veaceslav Platon left Moldova this July. He is reportedly in London.
