The interim mayor Vasile Ursu was designated honorific citizen of Budesti commune, Chisinau city. According to a press release of the Chisinau City Hall this title was offered due to “special merits towards the inhabitants” of this village. The awarding festivity took place during Budesti Village Day, celebrated during the Saint Archangel Michael feast on September 19. The mayor of Budesti, Nina Costiuc, told Info-Prim Neo that according to the decision of the local Council, the title was given to Vasile Ursu “for the valued social support of the commune, for personal input in the education of the new generation, and for transforming the village into a modern European locality”. The mayor of Budesti claims that Ursu “is open-minded, accessible” and together with German investors helped rebuild the local school. This fact is evaluated by the mayoralty of Budesti as “a heroic act”. According to Nina Costiuc, „we must appreciate one’s deeds while he is alive, we must not hesitate until they die or retire to appreciate them”. Such behavior is, according to the cited source, “an element of culture that must be passed on to the new generation”. The list of honorific citizens of Budesti commune has 7 persons from Kaufungen, Germany, the ex-ambassador of Germany to Chisinau, Michael Zickerick, 3 inhabitants of the commune, as well as the ex-mayor of the Chisinau municipal, Serafim Urecheanu.
