Vasile Tarlev: A team of comrades wants to block UCM Congress

“A team of comrades, members of other parties than the Centrist Union from Moldova (UCM), eye to clock the congress of the party,” ex-premier Vasile Tarlev says. He gave a news conference on December 12, on the eve of the party's extraordinary congress, Info-Prim Neo reports. The former prime-minister gave no names, but says he's aware of that “from reliable sources.” In September, they also tried to hamper the congress, banning the members' access to the rented hall, Tarlev said. At the congress planned for December 13, the members are to repeatedly elect the president of the party. Vasile Tarlev's election in this position in September was not acknowledged by the Justice Ministry, who claims the vote was not secret. Tarlev complains the Palace of the Republic administration declined his bid to rent the hall. This tells of the fact that the Moldovan citizens' rights are violated, as well as ones of the political parties and of the democratic principles, the ex-Prime-Minister said. Tarlev says neither in districts the party's members are allowed to rent halls to organize rallies with citizens. He says “many party members are visited at home by unknown people are are intimidated.” “It worries the UCM on the eve of elections,” he said.
