Valery Klimenko: The Russians from Moldova can prevent Moldova’s disappearance from the political map
The Russians from Moldova as well as those from Russia will not permit the union of Moldova with Romania, the chairman of the Congress of Russian Communities Valery Klimenko told a news conference on February 19, Info-Prim Neo reports.
He said that the pro-Romania forces in Moldova have stepped up efforts and this makes them think that Moldova’s statehood is in real danger.
The Congress of Russian Communities has always supported Moldova’s sovereignty and independence and will not allow that the statehood is destroyed, Klimenko said. “The Russians from Moldova can prevent Moldova’s disappearance from the political map of the world,” the cited source said.
The Russians, including those from Russia, are ready to oppose the unachievable plans of the national-extremist Romanians, Klimenko said. According to him, the Russians helped the Moldovans starting with 1812, when they liberated them from the Turkish occupation, and will continue to help them.
Asked by the reporters how great is the “danger” of the union with Romania and when such an event could happen, Klimenko said that the union with Romania will not take place though at the beginning of the conference he said that the intensification of pro-Romania forces’ activities represents a danger to Moldova as a state. At the same time, he said that he has a plan designed to fight the unionists, but will not make it public. Asked why he speaks on behalf of the native population without knowing their language, Klimenko said that those that discuss the Kosovo problem do not know the Albanese language either.
At the same conference, Klimenko, who is Russian by nationality and is the leader of the Social-Political Movement “Ravnopravie”, said that he is in Moldova on a long-term mission.
