Valeriu Strelet defends CEC

The leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet defended the Central Election Commission (CEC), saying the PCRM misleads and manipulates the people with protests where they demand that the Commission resign, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We witnessed poor shows. The Communists are responsible for the worsening of the living conditions and for the mass exodus of people. The Alliance for European Integration managed to stop the regression and the Communists are concerned about the progress we made,” Valeriu Strelet said after the June 9 sitting of the Parliament. The MP stated that the PCRM does not have the right to make accusations against the CEC. “The Commission had a good performance and the foreign observers confirmed this. The Communists simply want early legislative elections as they seek revenge,” said Valeriu Strelet. “On June 19 (when the second round of voting will take place), the PLDM will respect the people’s will. No party can prevent the country from following this course,” he added. Liberal lawmaker Valeriu Saharneanu said after the sitting that the Communist MPs want to spread hysteria in society. “They want to be actors, but remain comedians. They want their protests to look sincere, but they are fake. The people continue to suffer the consequences of the Communist government,” he stated. On June 9, dozens of members and sympathizers of the PCRM protested in front of the Palace of the Republic, expressing their dissatisfaction with the work done by the Central Election Commission and demanding that its members resign. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, CEC president Iurie Ciocan said he will not comment on Communist lawmakers’ assertions and accusations as the process of validating the election results is not yet over.
