Valeriu Munteanu, the Save Bessarabia Union’s candidate for the position of general mayor of Chisinau, claims that he has a solution for the pollution problem of the Bâc river. The candidate refers to a project developed at the time when he was Minister of Environment, but which was frozen. Valeriu Munteanu gives assurances that, once elected to the position of mayor, he will resume the project to implement it.
At an IPN press conference, Valeriu Munteanu has noted that in Moldova there has never been another project related to the cleaning of the Bâc river than the one developed during the time when he was minister of environment. The first part of the project, with estimated costs of one million euros, was intended to deepen the riverbed, in the area of Bucovăț, Strășeni, where the river debouches into Ghidighici Lake. There has been also envisaged the clogging of pipes suspected to be caused by some industrial enterprises that discharge wastewaters. The project provided for the arrangement of a 2-km area along the river bank between Mihai Viteazul and Federeului streets.
"The project was blocked by PDM people from the Ministry of Environment, but also by Silvia Radu and Ruslan Codreanu (deputy mayors, interim mayors), who were guided by them in Chisinau municipality. A substantial contribution was made in 2019 by the PSRM-ACUM coalition, which took over the governance, including in Chisinau, and did not restart this project,” said Valeriu Munteanu.
Ilie Crețu, USB candidate for the position of councillor, says he cannot be proud of the Bâc river because it is one of the most polluted in Europe. It is full of toxins, a place where wastewaters from state and private enterprises are outpoured. In the case of heavy rains, they reach the streets.
USB candidates mention that as regards the problem of the Bâc river they noticed a total lack of vision and ignorance of the state of affairs on the part of contenders for City Hall.
