Valeriu Lazar in Vilnius: Moldova’s association with EU will enable to modernize country

The political and economic association of Moldova with the EU is an internal policy priority rather than a foreign policy priority. The association with the EU will enable to modernize Moldova. By this association, we pledge to respect the European values, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said in an economic forum that was held on the sidelines of the EaP Summit in Vilnius, IPN reports.

Valeriu Lazar said that implementing the European model is a priority for Moldova. This model envisions attracting investments and creating conditions for the people to work and live at home as many Moldovans now work abroad. An attractive Moldova will attract the Transnistrians too.

The official also said it is important for the government to accept the European rules that are known by the investors. Moldova needs foreign investments in order to modernize infrastructure, support exports and achieve other priorities. On November 27, the Moldovan Government approved the roadmap for ameliorating competitiveness by which Moldova connects itself to the European economic area. “We need modernization, while the people need prospects. We hope to do the necessary reforms,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister.

The two-day Eastern Partnership Summit started in Vilnius today. Moldova is to initial the Association Agreement with the EU within it. The procedure started this morning.
