Valeri Kuzmin: Marian Lupu's visit to Moscow will reinvigorate Moldo-Russian relationship

The visit of Moldova's Speaker and acting President Marian Lupu to Moscow at the end of last will will reinvigorate the relationship between Moldova and Russia, believes Russian Ambassador Valeri Kuzmin. The diplomat stated at a press conference on Thursday that while last year there was some activity in this respect, it was limited mainly to formal events and neither party engaged wholeheartedly. Commenting on his recent round of meetings with the Moldovan political parties' leaders, Valeri Kuzmin said Russia was interested to have first-hand information about the situation in the Republic of Moldova, about the positions and views of the active political actors. Also, Valeri Kuzmin reiterated Russia's interest in the resumption of the 5+2 talks and said that Russia would participate in the informal negotiations scheduled for February 14-15 in Vienna, expressing his hope that there would be a constructive dialogue. “We know that between the Moldovan and the Transnistrian parties, between their law enforcement and judicial systems there is a number of unresolved issues, in particular the existence of some “blacklists”, the initiation of criminal proceedings etc. – all these cannot contribute to a favorable climate for the settlement of the conflict. We support the intention to settle the conflict, to secure the free movement of people, to cease the discriminatory processes that exist between the involved parties”, said Kuzmin.
