USAID provided US$76.8 million to the Government of the Republic of Moldova for the reimbursement of the record costs for electrical energy in the 2022-2023 winter season. The money was transferred through the agency of the World Bank and forms part of USAID’s commitment to offer $300 million to help Moldova strengthen its energy security, IPN reports.
“Besides this assistance, the United States offered support to the Republic of Moldova to respond to the economic, energy, security and humanitarian crisis caused by Putin’s war against Ukraine, simultaneously advancing the economic and democratic reforms agenda,” it is said in a press release issued by USAID Moldova.
Since 1992, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has helped Moldova strengthen democratic governance and economic growth and improve education and healthcare outcomes, contributing to building a democratic, prosperous and European future.
