U.S. urged to move nuclear warheads to Polish territory

The President of Poland Andrzej Duda called on the United States of America to transfer the nuclear warheads to Polish territory as a deterrent measure against possible Russian aggression, IPN reports.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Andrzej Duda said it was "obvious" that Donald Trump could redeploy U.S. nuclear warheads stored in Western Europe or the U.S. to Poland, a proposal the Polish leader said he had recently discussed with Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy for Ukraine.

"The borders of NATO moved to the east in 1999, so 26 years later there should also be a shift of the NATO infrastructure east. I think it’s not only that the time come, but that it would be safer if those weapons were already here," said Andrzej Duda.

Poland’s Communist regime hosted Soviet nuclear warheads during the cold war. According to the quoted source, stocking such weapons, again, close to Russia's borders – this time under U.S. control – would be viewed as a serious threat by the Kremlin.
