U.S. Secretary Antony Blinken will travel to Moldova and the Czech Republic during May 28-31 to highlight the “strong bilateral relations”, the Department of State announced.
In Chisinau, Secretary Blinken will meet with President Maia Sandu and other senior officials to reaffirm U.S. support for Moldova’s progress on EU accession and energy security.
This is the U.S. top diplomat’s second visit to Chisinau after the one on March 5, 2022, shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as Moldova was receiving a large wave of refugees from the neighboring country.
Secretary Blinken’s new visit to Moldova comes slightly more than a month after his Moldovan counterpart Mihai Popșoi paid a visit to Washington, where he thanked the U.S. for the constant support to our country.
After the start of the war in Ukraine, the US increased its financial support for Moldova and sanctioned Moldovan oligarchs who allegedly planned to destabilize the country, repeatedly expressing its support for the current Moldovan government.
The Moldovan President’s Office promised to soon offer details about the visit of the American official.
