U.S. provides equipment for preventing spread of radioactive substances to Moldova

U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Asif Chaudhry confirmed his country's readiness to launch a project to outfit the borders with special equipment for preventing the spread of radioactive and other dangerous substances in Moldova. The subject was discussed in a meeting of Prime Minister Vlad Filat and a group of experts of the U.S. Department of Energy, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Government's press service, the Ambassador said the equipment will be provided free of charge, while the U.S. experts are ready to offer assistance in preparing the Moldovan specialists and in using the equipment at the first stage. It was agreed to draft a memorandum of understanding that will define the responsibilities of the participants in the given project.. Vlad Filat said this project will help the Government of Moldova to ensure efficient border management.”This objective is important for us, including in obtaining a liberalized visa regime with the EU,” said the Premier. The U.S. implemented similar projects in Ukraine, Bulgaria and other countries, which were aimed at increasing security in the region.
