UN’s World Investment Report 2007 to be launched in Chisinau on Monday
The Ministry of Economy and Trade will organise on Monday, October 5, the launch of the United Nations’ World Investment Report 2007 in Chisinau.
The World Investment Report focuses on trends in foreign direct investment (FDI) worldwide, at the regional and country levels and emerging measures to improve its contribution to economic growth.
This year’s Report is themed “Transnational Corporations, Extractive Industries and Development”. Rising demand for commodities was reflected in a steep increase in natural resource-related FDI, although the services sector continued to be the dominant recipient of FDI.
The Report revealed that FDI has had a major contribution in South-East Europe’s economy in recent years. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said FDI inflows jumped 38 percent around the world in 2006 and amounted to $1,306 billion. In South-East Europe and CIS countries FDI rose for the sixth year in a row to reach $69 billion in 2006.
