Union with Romania marked in Chisinau
With songs dedicated to the union, brotherhood and freedom, the Romanians from Moldova marked, on Sunday, March 23, the 90th anniversary of Basarabia’s union with Romania. The anniversary meeting was organized by the Unionist Movement in the Great National Assembly Square, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According tot organizers, the meeting had the goal both to celebrate those 90 years since the Union, and to emphasize the stringent need to repeat the historical act of 27 March 1918.
In the opinion of attendees, Moldova’s only chance to get out of the political and economic impasse would be joining Romania.
“R. Moldova is free to decide its own fate in the space of national development, and this national development can’t help being but through Union,” the president of the Unionist Movement, Ilie Bratu, said in his speech.
Thus, the Unionist Movement members consider that the blame for the failure the country is in rests with both the Stalinist policy promoted for years, which killed over 1 million Basarabians, including all the intelligentsia, and the Neo-Stalinist policy of destroying the national identity promoted by the country’s leadership for the last 18 years.
According to the leader of the Unionist Movement, the country’s top leadership has proved more than enough, during 18 years, that they cannot transform Moldova into a prosperous state, bringing it to the condition of Europe’s poorest state with the largest debts. “Also because of this reason, the optimum solution to solve all the problems would be the union with the Motherland,” Bratu said.
