The kindergarten in Puhacehi village and the school in Roscani village, Anenii Noi district, which are located in the so-called Security Zone, have opened their doors again after renovation. The repair was done with the assistance of the Support to Confidence Building Measures Project, which is implemented by the UNDP Office in Moldova with the financial support of the European Union, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release from UNDP, the school in Roscani, which has about 300 students, was renovated at a cost of 16,000 euros. The renovation covered the school's gymnasium, the restroom facilities and the roof. “This event is a gift not only for the pupils and teachers, but also for the 450 families living in Roscani, for whom the school remains one of the most important institutions in the community”, stated Mayor Nicolae Lungu of Roscani. In cooperation with the village's residents and authorities, the local kindergarten also saw renovation, with its windows, doors, and roofing being replaced. The repair lasted for 10 moths and involved costs of 55,000 euros. Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, the head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova, stated that the EU pays particular attention to promoting dialogue and cooperation between authorities in Moldova and the Transnistrian region, and the support offered to infrastructure development projects in communities located in the Transnistrian region and in the Security Zone is a good argument in this respect. “The EU has supported and will further support similar projects”, promised the Ambassador. The Support to Confidence Building Measures Project aims to address the needs of Transnistrian communities including the security zone by increasing their access to basic social and economic services, as well as to objective and diversified sources of information. It is financed by the EU and implemended by UNDP. The so-called Security Zone is a 225km-long and 12-22km-wide buffer along the Nistru River.
