UN Office in Moldova announces “UN Awards 2006” contest for journalists
The Office of the United Nations in Moldova announces a contest for journalists entitled “UN Awards 2006”.
According to the organizers, the contest aims at encouraging media to tackle activity fields and priorities of UN, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Materials presented by journalists must refer, to such themes as respecting human rights, promoting democratic processes, developing private sector, fighting poverty, promoting reforms in medicine, education and social sector, promoting mothers’ and children’s health, combating HIV/AIDS, and other priorities of UN in Moldova. The articles will be evaluated according to the level of compliance with the suggested topic, objectivity and argumentation level, structure of the material, the quality of audio/video material, structure of the programme/reportage.
For each compartment, TV, radio and press, including news agencies, USD 125 will be given for the 1st place, 100 USD – 2nd place, 75 USD – 3rd place. The winners will be nominated by a jury, which will include representatives of the press institutions, media NGOs, and journalism education institutions.
The contest is administrated by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC). Participants will present 5 materials maximum from printed or electronic press, spread during October 2005-2006.
The copies of the materials must be sent to ICJ until October 5, 2006.
