Ukraine responds to Moldova’s appeal for help in overcoming droughts effects
Ukraine will grant 6 million hrivnas in support to Moldova in alleviating the effects of this year’s drought. Some other 1.2 million dollars will be used to purchase diesel oil that will be distributed to Moldovan farmers. The decision, recently approved by the Ukrainian Government, has been announced by PM Vasile Tarlev at a news conference today.
The Prime Minister said the embassies are currently discussing the ways of receiving the aid.
Until present, the Agriculture Risk Fund has received 1 million dollars granted by the Azerbaijani Government, 50,000 dollars by the China-based Red Cross, 75,000 dollars from the international company Itera Group, and about 850,000 lei offered by Moldova Gaz.
In addition, the U.S. Government distributed to Moldovan farmers seeds worth 350,000 dollars. More than 400 tonnes of seeds were offered by the Czech Government, the Prime Minister said.
The losses caused by this year’s extreme weather conditions to Moldova’s agriculture amount to 12 billion lei.
