Ukraine lost EUR 43 mln because of poultry smuggling at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border

Ukraine lost EUR 43 mln because of poultry smuggling across the Moldovan-Ukrainian, the head of the EU border assistance Mission, general Ferenc Banfi declared. Banfi declared, quoted by press from Kiev, said that the experts of the Mission found out many smuggling cases with poultry and cigarettes. The European official said that “he is not willing to talk about the authorities of the separatist nistrean republic, but the budget of Ukraine suffers great financial losses”. The EU border assistance Mission started its activity on November 30, 2005 as a result of the request of the Moldovan and Ukrainian president. The mission will function for 2 years and includes experts from several EU member countries. In July, the Mission opened an office in Chisinau.
