Ukraine halts gas supplies to Transnistria
Ukraine blocked the natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region on Tuesday, January 6. The region’s gas reserves will be enough for two days only. The announcement was made by Nicolai Mitinschi, the director general of Tiraspoltransgaz, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Tiraspol reports.
Mitinschi said that the Transnistrian authorities informed Gazprom and Moldova Gaz about the incident. He specified that the largest power station in the region, the Dnestrovsk Power Plant, has already shifted to coal.
Nicolai Gliga, the director of the municipal company Tiraspolteploenergo, said that the hot water supply was halted on Tuesday morning and they started to reduce the temperature in the heating pipes.
The supplies were stopped following a gas dispute between Russia and Ukraine and accusations made by Ukraine that somebody on Moldova’s territory steals the gas that is supplied to the European countries.
