Two more teachers caught taking bribe
A mathematics teacher and a history teacher of the Chisinau-based Theoretical Evening School No.2 were arrested Wednesday by officers of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime for taking US$300 from a ninth grader, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Center, the teachers asked the money for helping the student pass the graduation exams. He failed the exams in the April session and was to take them again during the additional session.
The money was passed on in two tranches under the control of anticorruption officers. The first US$100 marked ‘bribe’ was transmitted on June 6, while the other US$200 – on June 8. One of the suspects is the son of the school’s head. The two teachers were put under arrest for 72 hours. Legal action over traffic of influence was taken against them.
A similar case happened on June 6 at “Mihai Viteazul” High School in Chisinau. Six female teachers were caught in the act of filling out tests on English and French so as to give them later to high school students. In an office, the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime found and confiscated filled out tests and lists containing the name, surname, grade of the students and the code of the test paper. The head and secretary of “Mihai Viteazul” Baccalaureate Center were suspended for the period of the investigation.
