Two more cases of measles confirmed in Moldova

Two more cases of measles were confirmed Moldova, in a child aged six months from Chisinau municipality and in a six-year-old child from Drochia district.

The six-month old child got infected from his mother who caught the infection after living in Ukraine’s Vinita for a period. The authorities informed about this case last week.

The second child is from Ochiul Alb village. It is alleged that this got the infection from an uncle who returned from Kyiv at the start of April.

The authorities said the epidemic measles situation continues to remain unfavorable in the neighboring states. Almost 13,000 sick persons have been reported in Romania since the start of 2017. In Ukraine, the number of infected persons is similar to that in Romania. More cases of measles were also reported in France, Georgia, Greece, Italy and Serbia.

Four more cases of measles have been earlier confirmed in Moldova after no one caught the infection in four years.

The diseases can be prevented only by vaccination, at the ages of 12 months, 7 and 15 years. Those who weren’t vaccinated at these ages can go to the primary medical assistance institution to have a shot.
