Two factions leave Tuesday’s City Council meeting
The Christian-Humanist-Democratic faction of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) and the Communist faction, in total 19 councillors of 45 attending, left on Tuesday, January 22, the sitting hall on the initiative of councillor Oleg Oniscenco, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Oniscenco solicited the inclusion of an additional issue on the order of the day, concerning the consequences of a court decision that ordered the city administration to pay the heat distributor Termocom 105 million lei. He reminded that 5 million of this sum represents damages that the city authorities must pay because of some irresponsible functionaries. The councillor sought to know whether, after paying this money, the city administration will have enough funds left to give a 20% salary raise to employees working in the social municipal sector.
During the voting procedure, when it became clear that the proposal was going to be voted down, Oniscenco stopped the process announcing that his faction was leaving the meeting because it didn’t want to see the interests of the Chisinau citizens being harmed. “We are talking about millions of lei as some persons are trying to cover these illegalities”, exclaimed Oniscenco. The Communist faction followed the example.
The meeting continued with 26 councillors attending, exactly the minimal required number for it to be valid.
