The Central Election Commission (CEC) imposed a penalty in the form of a warning on independent candidate for President Tudor Ulyanovski for allegedly using financial means without declaring them in advance, as required. As a complementary punishment, Tudor Ulyanovski was deprived of free airtime for a period of 48 hours. The election contestant considers the CEC decision is abusive, IPN reports.
According to the CEC, Tudor Ulyanovski neglected the obligation to assess the activity of the volunteers indicated in the financial management report. Also, he did not declare the use of services and resources. “Taking into account the accumulated deviations and the basic penalty in the form of a warning for violating electoral normative documents, as well as the continuous vicious behavior related to campaign financing, the CEC also imposed the complementary punishment in the form of deprivation of free airtime for a period of 48 hours on independent candidate Tudor Ulyanovski,” said the electoral authority.
Tudor Ulyanovski said that a part of the members of the Central Election Commission took an abusive decision regarding his financial report for September 26-29, i.e. for the first three days of his campaign. “I was penalized twice for the first week of the campaign during which, due to the absence of an active electoral fund and financial resources, I did not carry out electoral activities and did not use tents in the information campaign. The sides for the tents that are to be used in the election campaign were paid on September 28, according to the payment order, and were delivered to us on October 1,” said the election contender. He also said that he will challenge the CEC decision in court and will ask that it should be annulled.
