Trump-Zelensky discussion after call with Putin

Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation on Wednesday about the evolution of the peace negotiations in Ukraine. The U.S. president suggested that the U.S. should manage the nuclear power plants in Ukraine, IPN reports, with reference to the Ukrainian news agency Unian.

Trump told Zelensky that U.S. management of nuclear power plants would be the best protection for Ukraine's energy infrastructure, says the White House statement

“We discussed exclusively about the plant (in Zaporizhzhia) which today is under Russia's temporary occupation and, as you know, is in danger, due to the fact that Moscow had occupied it, owns it absolutely illegally, and it does not work," Zelensky said.

"President Trump shared details of his conversation with Putin and the key issues discussed. One of the first steps toward fully ending the war could be ending strikes on energy and other civilian infrastructure. I supported this step, and Ukraine confirmed that we are ready to implement it," the Ukrainian leader wrote in a post on social media.

Trump and Zelensky also conferred on the situation in the Russian Kursk region, the release of prisoners of war, the return of Ukrainian children, taken by Russian forces, and the strengthening of Ukraine's air defenses.

Ukraine accepted the proposal for an unconditional ceasefire. In addition, the two leaders also agreed on a partial energy strike ceasefire. The technical details will be clarified by the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations, which will meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days. Trump and Zelensky believe that this could be the first step toward fully ending the war and ensuring security.

Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump agreed to maintain contact at the highest level, including through the responsible teams of both states.
