About ten trolleybuses will be put on the Chisinau-Ialoveni route in about two years. These will work based on storage batteries and will be assembled by the Chisinau Electric Transport Company, at the request of the Ialoveni mayor’s office. The announcement was made by the Company’s head Gheorghe Morgoci in the March 21 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, IPN reports.

According to Gheorghe Morgoci, the trolleybuses that will run on the Chisinau-Ialoveni route will set off from the Gaudeamus Movie Theater and will run up to the center of Ialoveni town. About €2 million is needed for implementing the project. The financing will be provided by the Ialoveni mayor’s office, which put forward the initiative.

The Company’s director said the process of initiating the project was launched and a contract is to be signed. “We will assemble the trolleybuses with parts that will be supplied by our partners from Minsk. If the sides honor their contractual obligations we will complete the project in a year or two at most,” stated Gheorghe Morgoci.

At the beginning of last June, the Chisinau Electric Transport Company presented a new model of trolleybus that works based on storage batteries. It can cover up to 50 km without being connected to the electricity networks. It was then suggested extending the trolleybus line up to the Chisinau airport. Calculations showed such trolleybuses are three times more economical than the current diesel-fueled trolleybuses.
