The 18 trolleybuses that the Chisinau City Hall intends to purchase from the Riga City Hall are 15 years old. For the purchase to be possible, the municipal councilors had to exclude the phrase “not older than 12” from the earlier approved decision concerning the plan for renewing the public transport system of the municipality of Chisinau for 2020-2023 , IPN reports.
According to deputy mayor in charge of the sector Victor Chironda, according to the documents of the trolleybuses put up for auction in Riga, the vehicles were made in 2005 and they are thus 15 years old. Without those changes, Chisinau could not take part in the auction.
The deputy mayor said there will be no problems with the spare parts and repair of these units of transport as the Chisinau Electric Transport Company has the capacity to maintain them.
Under the plan for renewing the public transport system of the municipality of Chisinau for 2020-2023, the City Hall will take out a loan that will not exceed 400 million lei and will buy 100 buses at a public auction. There will be assembled 30 trolleybuses and bought 18 trolleybuses from the Riga City Hall.
The plan provides that at least 150 buses and at least 90 traditional and articulated trolleybuses will be assembled until 2023.
