The trolleybus route linking the center of the city with the Agrarian University opened on Thursday, June 15. The route nr “29” will be served by 4 trolleybuses, at a 15 minute distance. The interim mayor, Vasile Ursu, stated that until now 58,8 million lei were spent for the works. Previously he said that other 4 million lei would be spent for stopping soil erosion in the region. The biggest part of the resources for implementing the project was allocated from the state budget. On the eve of the new school year, when the passenger flow to the university increases, the local authorities will discuss the possibility to increase the number of trolleybuses. According to previous calculations, 7 trolleybuses are need on this route. The Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, present at the opening ceremony of the route, who supervised the implementation of the project, noted that the 30-year dream of the Agrarian University will come true at last, as well as that of the inhabitants of the district Petricani to have access to cheap public transport. The rector of the University, Gheorghe Cimpoies, mentioned that investments made in launching this route would be recovered from the contributions of the agrarians, taught at the Agrarian University. Cimpoies handed diplomas of the university and money prizes to managers of municipal specialized services who contributed to the opening of the trolleybus route.
