Soprano Maria Procopenco releases her debut video – Your Beloved Eye – as a tribute paid to her aunt, soprano Maria Bieșu, who was born on August 3.
“Today is a special day. It’s the birthday of my aunt, the great soprano Maria Bieșu, the best Cio-Cio-San in the world, and I decided to give her a unique gift – one that comes from my heart,” the soprano wrote on her Facebook page.
Dedicating the romance to her aunt, Maria Procopenco pays tribute to her and thanks her for the influence she had on her. “Your Beloved Eye” is one of the romances sung by Maria Bieșu and her granddaughter once told her that she will sing it when she grows up. The soprano’s birthday is the right time to release this video, Maria Procopenco believed.
“What can be more beautiful than the combination of the lyrics of the great Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu and the music of the super famous composer Eugen Doga? This song is not only about its melodicity, but also about what connects memories and sighs,” the soprano also said.
Maria Procopenco studied at “Ștefan Neaga” College of Music, specializing in Choral Conducting, and then studied classical singing at the Bucharest Conservatory. She is currently part of the Experimental Studio of the Bucharest National Opera and part of the ArtPulse Association team.
Today it is marked the 89th anniversary of the birth of the prima donna of the National Opera Maria Bieșu. The famous singer passed away in May 2012.
