Transport minister is investigated on three counts

The investigation of Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Iurie Chirinciuc features three counts. The minister was for now charged with passive corruption only. The other two counts are being proved, said chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari, quoted by IPN.

The first count is passive corruption employed by decision makers of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, in concert with other persons involved in entrepreneurial activities, to make business entities concede subcontracts for a particular percentage of the value of the contracts.

Another count is abuse of power in the case of the building of a road in Ungheni district by a businessman close to a public figure of the Ministry of Transport, while the third is illegal extraction of mineral resources.

Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Iurie Chirinciuc, acting director general of the State Road Administration Veaceslav Teleman and the managers of two building companies were arrested on April 27. If they are found guilty, the suspects will serve up to 15 years behind bars.
