Transnistrian settlement is key priority in Greek presidency of OSCE: Charalampos Christopoulos
“Unleashing a new impulse in the process of Transnistrian settlement is a key priority of the Greek presidency of the OSCE,” said ambassador Charalampos Christopoulos, the special representative of the OSCE chairman-in-office in charge with frozen conflicts. The statement was made Friday as he ended his visit to Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The working visit to Moldova, including the Transnistrian area, was made upon the request of the OSCE chairwoman-in-office, Dora Bakoyannis, the Greek Foreign Minister.
“The visit aimed at seeking solutions to resume the settlement process in the 5+2 format and at supporting the work of the joint expert groups in terms of trust-building activities,” the ambassador specified.
Charalampos Christopoulos has conducted a series of talks with representatives of the Moldovan and Tiraspol authorities.
“Jointly with the OSCE mission to Moldova, the Greek presidency will cooperate with both sides to attain real regulations: a settlement negotiated freely and peacefully to confirm Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to gain the Transnistrians' support, guaranteeing them a real autonomy, duly respected,” Christopoulos specified.
The ambassador also met with the Central Election Commission and with representatives of political parties and the civil society.
“Holding free, fair and democratic elections represent an important thing for Moldova's future relationships with Europe – we want to help Moldova pass this test with the highest marks,” said Charalampos Christopoulos.
