The Transnistrian region is to receive natural gas from Gazprom very soon, said the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky, who recently returned from Moscow.

In a news conference held upon his visit to the capital of the Russian Federation, he said that the gas will be delivered as humanitarian aid for the population and enterprises based on the left bank of the Nistru, IPN reports.

Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that it is premature to talk about the gas transit route, but also about payments, as the discussions continue.

Referring to the fact that he did not announce his visit to Moscow, he said that he wanted not political PR, but results.

As for the 12 localities that are to be supplied with gas by Chisinau, as the Commission for Emergency Situations decided, the Transnistrian leader said that, after the resumption of Russian gas supplies to the region, these localities will be provided with electricity and gas through the Transnistrian energy system.

Krasnoselsky also referred to the statements made by President Maia Sandu, saying that she does not know the real situation because she is not presented with accurate information.

On January 1, gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region were stopped by Russia’s Gazprom, which invoked the non-payment of a debt of US$709 million, which is not recognized by Chisinau. More than 51,000 households in the Transnistrian region were left without gas and almost 1,500 apartment buildings have no heat or hot water.

The Moldovan authorities accused the Kremlin of intentionally provoking this crisis in the region in order to destabilize the situation on the right bank of the Nistru. Even so, the constitutional authorities say that they will not prevent the transit of Russian gas to the Transnistrian region. And, if Krasnoselsky’s visit "will solve the problem, it should do this," President Maia Sandu said on Tuesday, after the meeting of the Supreme Security Council.
