Transnistrian energy system stabilized, no more power cuts

The Transnistrian administration announced that the energy system in the region was stabilized and the supply of electricity is no longer turned off, while the MGRES power plant produces electricity based on natural gas, IPN reports.

The plant generates 200 megawatts per hour. The pressure in the system was high after the resumption of gas supplies to the left bank of the Nistru, which allowed the MGRES plant to produce electricity based on gas again.

The scheduled power cuts were stopped and the supply of heat to the multi-story buildings was restored in practically all localities.

The situation in the energy sector was discussed in Tiraspol by members of the crisis cell. Local officials noted the stabilization of things and informed that, the supply of gas to meet the needs of the population on the left bank of the Nistru started on Saturday, February 1.

Private houses are, one by one, being connected to the gas network. The local administration said that by the end of this week, all rural localities will have gas. A report by the self-styled authorities shows that 2,707 houses and 8,938 consumers in villages have been connected so far. The others will receive gas by the end of the week.

The European Union allocated €20 million from a larger grant for purchasing gas for consumers from the left bank of the Nistru. According to the Ministry of Energy, this money will also be used to keep a block of the MGRES in operation until February 10.
