The energy crisis caused losses of 13 million rubles in the Transnistrian region, and the local industry was severely affected, seeing a 56% drop in production in January 2025 compared to the same period last year, IPN reports, with reference to local media.
According to the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky, a sum of over 11 million rubles from the reserve fund was used to purchase generators, solid fuel boilers and other equipment necessary to keep essential social institutions functional. Also, the repair works and intervention measures to remedy damage caused to the energy system required additional expenses.
Krasnoselsky said that in January, the gas crisis led to the temporary shutdown of about 40 industrial enterprises, including the Moldovan Steel Works, "Tirotex" factory and the Rybnitsa Cement Plant. In some cases, thousands of employees were sent on furlough, and some were laid off. Exports decreased by 60%, affecting especially the chemical industry – minus 91.3%, the textile sector – minus 83% and metallurgy – minus 82.5%.
The so-called local authorities also said that the decrease in customs revenues contributed significantly to the budget losses, amounting to 9 million rubles. According to them, the financial impact will also be felt in the coming months, depending on the evolution of the economic situation.
